I was rejected after a manager looked at my LinkedIn profile

One reader writes:

I recently applied for a position at a company that I’m very interested in. On Monday I noticed that a senior manager from the department had looked at my LinkedIn profile on Sunday. However, in the morning I received an automated letter of rejection. My profile is pretty similar to my resume and I’m not sure if I’m over-analyzing it or if I need to correct something on my profile and / or resume for future applications!

I answer that question – and four others – today at Inc., where I review letters that were buried here in the archives years ago (and sometimes add / expand my answers). You can read it here.

Other questions I answer there today are:

  • Should I have disclosed that my network connection is actually my spouse?
  • Employees do not cover their tabs
  • I still get calls from customers after I’ve been laid off
  • I’ve changed my name, now I’m changing it back
